Tell us about your role. What does a day in your life at Capgemini look like?

I am a software engineer and developer, and most of my time is currently spent developing the Osian website. As a developer, I help implement new features, but I also contribute towards decisions around how those features are developed. I’m part of a highly collaborative team that works together to create the best solutions for our clients. I really enjoy working with my colleagues, and we have a great relationship.

On a typical day, I start by organizing my agenda and I also determine my daily goals. This helps me to outline my priorities, stay on top of my workload, and stay productive.

What’s the best thing about working at Capgemini?

The best thing for me is the freedom and flexibility I have when I’m doing my job, and I love the fact that I can organize my own time and decide what I’m going to spend the day working on. I don’t feel any overhead pressure, and there’s no sense of being micromanaged; there is never anybody looking over your shoulder, constantly pointing out what has to be done. This sense of trust and responsibility gives me the motivation I need to perform my best.

What makes you proud to work at Capgemini?

I’m proud to work at Capgemini because I believe that the company really values every single employee. It actively contributes to my professional development by financing courses and training, there is a robust platform for learning in different areas, and I am always encouraged to learn new things. I’m currently preparing for my Capgemini Salesforce admin exam, and I’m hoping for a good result!

I also like to add that Capgemini embodies good working values like showing respect to each other, and this makes me proud to work here.

How are you working towards the future you want?

I’m working towards the future I want by setting myself regular goals and doing my best to achieve them every day. I have lots of big ambitions, but by breaking them down into smaller goals, I find that I can make progress quickly whilst feeling a strong sense of accomplishment. This serves as an incentive to ultimately achieve my ambitions and be successful.

Another thing that has made a big difference for me is my mentor, who is also my team leader – their guidance has been incredibly valuable to me. I see that my work is valued, and I receive incentives to keep moving forward on my path. Whenever I need to speak to my mentor, or I have something I’d like to ask them, they’re always there for me, no matter how small the question.

What advice would you give to someone joining Capgemini?

The advice I would give is to learn as much as you can, be proactive, and have fun. Capgemini has so much to offer, and if you are motivated, you have the opportunity to learn as many things as you wish. I think it’s also important to socialize and enjoy the moment, and not just be always focused on work. There are so many great people at Capgemini, so make sure you get to know your team but your wider colleagues too. I’ve made friends for life here, and I’m really glad I took the time to get to know them.

How do you think Capgemini’s support has been since the pandemic began?

I have received a lot of support, and I couldn’t be happier with the way Capgemini has treated me.

I’m a proud parent, and my child was suspected of having coronavirus because she had a number of symptoms. I therefore had to isolate, and during this time, I couldn’t work. Over this period, I received an email from the Human Resources team showing concern for my child and sharing kind words of support. It wasn’t something they had to do out of necessity; it was a genuine show of support. I really appreciated the gesture, and I will never forget how caring they were.
